What is Pilates?

Pilates is the perfect meeting point between gentleness and intensity.

This method combines deep, conscious breathing with precise physical exercises, offering a complete full-body workout — without ever leaving you out of breath.

Born in the early 20th century, it owes its name to Joseph Pilates, who developed it during the First World War to help bedridden soldiers keep moving and begin their rehabilitation. After relocating to the United States, he refined his method and opened his first studio in New York. Originally called "contrology", the practice first won over the world of dance and performing arts — before becoming more widely accessible and opening up to everyone. Today, it is widely recognised as a particularly beneficial practice for relieving back pain.

At Mat&More, Cindy & Marine guide you through matwork exercises — practised on the floor, on a mat, with no apparatus needed.

Focused on core work and pelvic stabilisation, these exercises build deep, balanced muscle strength, improved body awareness and better posture, through fluid and controlled movements. Depending on the session, you may also get to explore a range of accessories: magic circle, resistance bands, exercise balls…

Pilates is truly for everyone — from seasoned athletes to those simply looking to strengthen their body gently. Without ever pushing too hard, you gain strength, mobility and alignment.

A real gift for your body!
